Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev outlined how they plan to combat corruption in Alatau, according to LS.
He stated that transparency and public oversight, as well as the work of law enforcement agencies, should be the key tools.
"Ideally, we should structure our efforts in the first area as thoroughly as possible so that no one is even tempted in the future. And third, there’s the legal environment. Don’t forget, it won’t be the same here as in other regions. I told you that this is English law. Investors won’t have to go to a Kazakhstani court. And there, no one will ever be allowed to settle matters through some ‘backroom deals,’ he said.
K. Bozumbayev also clarified that certain areas, including law enforcement, human rights protection, marriage, and family matters, will not be governed by this legal regime.
"We’re talking about security boundaries, special agencies, and so on. Therefore, city officials will still remain under the oversight of the Prosecutor General’s Office, anti-corruption agencies (APK), the National Security Committee, and so on. I suppose enhanced measures will be adopted from all sides. I think we must do this because, undoubtedly, there is significant investment potential and the possibility of abuse. But this requires oversight and transparency. Next year, we will publish information on a special information resource regarding all investors who come and receive any preferential treatment. Their commitments—what to build, how to develop it, within what timeframe, and at what cost in terms of money, resources, and labor—will all be made public,” he promised in conclusion.
