An official presentation of the feasibility study for the joint flagship project to open a branch of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in the city of Alatau took place in Astana.
The event was attended by Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Kazakhstan; KAIST’s management and team of experts; as well as representatives of the management company and investors in Alatau City.
During the meeting, the KAIST team presented the results of the completed feasibility study for the QAIST project, including the concept and academic model of the future university, priority areas of scientific research, the structure of faculties and educational programmes, as well as an assessment of the economic viability and potential risks associated with the project’s implementation. The participants paid particular attention to discussing the findings of the study, agreeing on the future course of the project and defining the subsequent stages of its implementation.
The successful completion of the feasibility study marked an important milestone in the implementation of this joint initiative between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea. The document confirms the project’s high academic and economic viability, sets out the parameters of the future science and education cluster, the stages of construction of a modern campus, and the model for training world-class specialists.
The opening of a branch of South Korea’s leading technological university in Alatau City will be one of the key projects for the development of higher education and science in Kazakhstan. The implementation of this initiative will contribute to the establishment of an international science and technology centre, the advancement of cutting-edge research, the commercialisation of technologies, the strengthening of cooperation with leading global universities, and the training of highly qualified engineering personnel for Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia.
