Kazakhstan and Korea Sign MoU on Cooperation in the Development of Alatau Smart City

Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev held a meeting with Kim Bok-hwan, President and CEO of the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND).

Today’s meeting in Astana was a continuation of the negotiations held in October in Seoul as part of the Alatau Rise with Kazakhstan roadshow, during which the Kazakh side presented Alatau Smart City as one of the country’s strategically significant projects.

«Many Korean companies have supported our promising Alatau Smart City project, which we sincerely welcome. KIND could participate in infrastructure construction projects, including energy, water supply, water treatment, wastewater recycling and drainage, as well as municipal solid waste processing – both under EPC contracts and in a development format»,  — said Kanat Bozumbayev.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed prospects for cooperation on other potential projects in the fields of logistics and port infrastructure. Taking into account the broad opportunities for partnership, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed that the head of KIND consider opening a Corporation office in Kazakhstan.

Following the negotiations, a Memorandum of Understanding on Alatau Smart City Development Corporation was signed between the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Fund Alatau City Authority, and the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation.
