The Head
of State gave an interview to Bauyrzhan Babazhanuly, Turkistan newspaper,
January 5, 2026, No. 1 (1638)
–
Let's start the interview with the traditional question about the results of
the past year. I understand that there were many events. But what, in your
opinion, is the main result of 2025?
– There
really were a lot of significant events, the year flew by like a flash, it's
hard to answer your question right away.
For
example, our economy has grown by more than 6 percent, GDP exceeded $300
billion, and GDP per
capita has exceeded $15,000. These are record figures not only for our country,
but for the entire region. There are reasons for satisfaction, but I constantly
urge all state servants do not to calm down, do not to rest on their laurels.
As Eastern wisdom says, “Even the most favorable situation hides danger.” We
must work hard and move forward, especially since there are many unresolved
issues.
This
is, first of all, the high level of inflation, which "eats up" all
efforts, aimed at improving the well-being of our citizens. This year, the
government and akims have a lot of work to do in terms of strengthening the
socio-economic framework of the state.
Nevertheless,
the main outcome of the year was the irreversibility of reforms. Kazakhstan has
taken a big step forward on the path to modernization and has become a more
civilized state. Society has gained a stronger understanding of the exceptional
importance of large-scale transformations for the well-being of future
generations.
Under
the pressure of President Trump's “common sense” strategy, globalization is
receding into the background. In Kazakhstan, we are also building a society of
justice, legality, order, and hard work, which is critically important for the
future of our state. In the coming year, this work will continue with redoubled
force, with a view to long-term results. – shared K. Zh. Tokayev
