Kazakhstan is taking another step towards creating the
city of the future. Today, deputies of the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament)
accepted for consideration a draft constitutional law on the special status of
the city of Alatau, an initiative developed on the instructions of the Head of
state.
A smart city of the future with digital solutions in
all aspects. This is how the ambitious new Alatau City project is being
presented. Today, the Mazhilis accepted a law that will establish its legal and
economic regime. The city will operate under a special administrative regime.
Maxim Rozhin, Member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament
of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
– The city of Alatau will be directly subordinate to
the government. This will speed up processes and accelerate the receipt of
funds for infrastructure projects and development. The city has big plans.
Albert Rau, Member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament
of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
– The law is quite progressive in terms of the
management system. There will still be a two-level system. When the council
deals with general issues, it can be said that direct presidential authority is
introduced and, accordingly, the akimat.
The special economic zone, covering an area of 88,000
hectares, could easily accommodate Hong Kong or Singapore, or even Berlin. But in Alatau City,
four so-called new districts will appear at once, a large business center, an
education and medicine center, a research and production center and a place
combining ecological zones and active recreation will operate. According to
experts, by 2037 its population will reach two million people. The special
status of the city will help create conditions for attracting private
investment. This will turn Alatau into a modern economic, technological,
scientific and educational center of international importance.
