Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: Creating knowledge-intensive zones is our strategic goal

The President of Kazakhstan held a meeting with the scientific community at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazinform reports, citing Akorda.

According to the President, science cities and cities of accelerated development are intended to serve as hubs for attracting investment and cutting-edge technologies.

— To implement this task, a corresponding Concept was adopted, which provides for the creation of powerful science and technology parks. At my instruction, work has begun on granting the city of Kurchatov the status of a science city. Parliament is considering a bill defining the legal status and financing mechanisms for science cities. The creation of knowledge-intensive territories is our strategic objective. The new Constitution allows for the establishment of a special legal regime for “accelerated development city.” I believe that the city of Alatau will become an attractive high-tech project for investors. Overall, the development of science in the regions remains a key focus of the state. Mayors have been delegated the authority to implement scientific and technical policy, — said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

In conclusion, the Head of State addressed all representatives of the country’s scientific and academic community.

“The future of Kazakhstan—how innovative and progressive our country will be—depends largely on your ideas, research, work results, and discoveries. I am confident that through our joint efforts, we will be able to transform Kazakhstan into one of the leading scientific and technological centers of Eurasia,” said the President.
