Every new project here plans to integrate with
tokens
On May 8, 2026, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed
the law “On the special legal regime of the city of Alatau.” This document
implies that in Kazakhstan’s youngest city, many things will not be quite the
same as in the rest of the country. Starting with governance—Alatau will not
have the akim familiar to Kazakhstani citizens—and ending with a host of
incentives for foreign investors.
The new city’s special regime will also extend
to the use of digital resources. As of May 1, these processes have generally
become simpler in Kazakhstan. However, according to Arman Tastanbekov, Deputy
Director General of the Alatau City Authority Fund, an even more liberal regime
is expected in Alatau.
Speaking at the Solana Summit Kazakhstan forum,
Tastanbekov explained that blockchain will be one of the foundations of the new
city. This is because Alatau will prioritize the development of digitalization.
“It is impossible to imagine the development of
a digital city of the future without blockchain infrastructure—a universal
layer for all social and economic interactions in the city,” said Arman
Tastanbekov.
According to him, a phenomenon such as
tokenization will become a full-fledged ecosystem in Alatau. This goes beyond
just cryptocurrency. According to Tastanbekov, tokenization will encompass
various aspects of city residents’ lives. So much so that Alatau plans to
introduce the principle of “default tokenization.”
"First, we will lay the foundation:
regulation, public administration, digital identity, asset registries,
infrastructure, and investment protection. Then we will implement tokenization
in specific infrastructure projects and real-asset projects. At the same time,
we will develop liquidity mechanisms, compliance tools, investor communication
systems, and market infrastructure. This will form the basis of the native Web3
economy, where all elements of the real and digital economies work together in a
single space,” explained Tastanbekov.
