Kanat Bozumbayev Discusses Experience of Innovative City Development with Shenzhen Mayor

During his working visit to China, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev held a meeting with the Mayor of Shenzhen Qin Weizhong.
The parties discussed issues of attracting investment, developing innovation ecosystems, digitalization of urban management, and implementing modern technologies. Special attention was paid to the development of Alatau City as a new center of economic growth in Kazakhstan and the study of international experience in creating competitive cities.
Kanat Bozumbayev noted that Kazakhstan and China are consistently strengthening their strategic partnership. In 2025, trade turnover between the two countries reached a record $48.7 billion, while the volume of Chinese investment in Kazakhstan’s economy from 2005 to 2025 exceeded $29 billion.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that when developing the special legal regime and development model for Alatau City, the best international experience is taken into account, including the experience of Shenzhen, which in just a few decades has become one of the world’s leading centers of innovation, high technology, and entrepreneurship.
Mayor of Shenzhen Qin Weizhong positively assessed Kazakhstan’s initiative to create Alatau City and expressed interest in expanding cooperation. He noted that the successful implementation of next-generation projects requires long-term strategic vision, openness to investment, and consistent introduction of innovations.
