Metro line to the Alatau – details of the metro’s development announced in Almaty

Public consultations are taking place in Almaty on the strategic environmental assessment of the revision to the city’s Master Plan up to 2040. On the sidelines of the event, Askhat Saduov, head of “Almatygenplan”, outlined details of the construction of the Almaty metro, reports Tengrinews.kz.
The “Sairan” station will be connected to the town of Alatau
Public hearings were held in Almaty on the draft Master Plan up to 2040. Askhat Saduov, head of the “Almatygenplan” Research Institute LLP, reported that the draft had received a favourable opinion from the Ministry of Ecology. According to him, the project aims for polycentric and compact development of the metropolis, which will help to significantly relieve traffic congestion.
Responding to questions from journalists, Saduov emphasised that transport accounts for 60 per cent of all harmful emissions in the city. He said that the development of high-speed public transport should resolve this problem.
“We have already held talks regarding the depot and have received permission from Almaty Airport. The second metro line will run to the airport. In addition, there will be another line – from ‘Sairan’ station to the town of Alatau, or more precisely to the Gate district. All this is aimed at reducing traffic congestion,” Askhat Saduov told journalists on the sidelines of the discussion.
Third line (green): to the city of Alatau
The new line is expected to connect the southern districts of the city with the north.
• Route: the line will start in the “Kazakhfilm” district, pass through “Sairan” station and head north – towards the city of Alatau, which is currently under construction.
• Scale: the total length of the line will be 28 kilometres, with 17 stations planned along the route.
According to the plans announced, two of the 17 stations will be located directly within the Alatau area.
