The Head of State was briefed on the results of the implementation of monetary policy in January–July 2026.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was briefed on the economic situation, business activity, factors driving inflation and the measures being taken to stabilise prices. Annual inflation has been falling for the tenth consecutive month and stood at 10.2% in July, driven by the current monetary policy, the strengthening of the tenge exchange rate, the stabilisation of consumer activity, and a set of coordinated anti-inflationary measures by the Government and the National Bank.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was also informed on the situation in the foreign exchange market, the status of the assets of the National Fund and the Unified National Pension Fund (UNPF), as well as the country’s gold and foreign exchange reserves (GFER/IR). As at 1 July this year, the combined value of the National Fund and the GFER/IR stood at 127.3 billion US dollars. To develop the financial ecosystem of Alatau City, the National Bank has drawn up measures aimed at ensuring the rapid and flexible movement of capital, as well as attracting investment into the city’s development.
The National Fund’s investment income for the first half of this year reached $2.3 billion. The UNPF’s pension assets totalled 27.8 trillion tenge, having increased by 1.7 trillion tenge since the start of the year.
The Head of State was presented with information on the progress made in implementing his instructions regarding the development of the digital financial assets industry and the National Digital Financial Infrastructure. Among the new areas of focus are the use of stablecoins for cross-border payments, the development of infrastructure and the issuance of tokenised government assets. A new segment of the payments market has also been introduced: first-category licensed payment organisations. This will help to stimulate competition, reduce costs for customers and broaden access to innovative digital services for the public and businesses.
