On 1 September, the first school with a capacity of 900 pupils opened in the Alatau city; four further new schools were also opened in the Almaty Region, providing a total of 4,200 places.
In addition, major refurbishment work was completed at a further 10 schools in the region in time for the start of the academic year. This was reported by the regional akimat.
As specified by the regional administration, the new educational establishments were built as part of the national “Keleshek Mektepteri” project, implemented on the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The new schools were opened in the village named after Nurgisa Tlendiyev in the Ili district, the village of Bulakty in the Karasay district, the villages of Ashchysai and Satay in the Enbekshikazakh district, and in the Koyankus neighbourhood of the city of Alatau.
Marat Sultangaziev, the regional akim, attended the opening of the school in the village named after Nurgisa Tlendiyev.
It is noted, that the new schools are equipped with subject-specific classrooms, physics, chemistry and biology laboratories, STEM facilities and robotics classrooms. An accessible environment has been created for children with special educational needs.
According to regional authorities, the new academic year in the region has begun for 365 770 children, more than 35 000 of whom are first graders. There are a total of 502 schools in the region.
