The city of the future has been presented to the international community, with London serving as the venue for a major investment milestone for Kazakhstan. Alatau City is entering the global arena, attracting interest from leading financial institutions, multinational corporations, and major companies in the education and healthcare sectors, which are exploring opportunities to participate in its development.
Nine agreements with a total investment potential of $1.3 billion have already been signed. The initiative goes beyond the construction of a new city, aiming to establish a new economic and technological hub in Central Asia, reports 24KZ.
Alatau City is set to become Kazakhstan's first fully digital city, developed at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The investment roundtable held in London brought together representatives of more than 70 companies, banks and investment funds. Participants were introduced to the development concept of what is envisioned to become a new business and technology centre in Central Asia.
Dan Ringelstein, Director of Master Planning and Urban Design at ARUP:
“Alatau City will be more than just a smart city; it will serve as a model for a modern urban environment. Priority will be given to pedestrians and public transport. Drones will be used for goods delivery, while air taxis may be introduced in the future.”
Simon FT Cox, Senior Consultant at Norton Rose Fulbright:
“The objective is to establish a legal environment in which investors can operate with confidence. To achieve this, a separate legal system based on English common law is being developed. It will ensure investment protection and compliance with international business standards.”
Harry Dobbs, Member of the Alatau City Council:
“The city's concept has already been developed. The main challenge now is to turn this vision into reality. Plans are already underway to develop a business centre, tourism facilities and logistics infrastructure. At the same time, the city's master plan is being prepared with the involvement of leading international experts.”
Meanwhile, 28 engineering and transport infrastructure projects worth more than KZT 35 billion are being implemented in Alatau City.
The European investment roadshow will continue in Germany, where further meetings with potential investors are scheduled.
