Iconic Complex

Alatau Iconic Complex in the Gate District — a flagship project in Kazakhstan designed to become an international hub for Central Asia.

The project concept was developed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The complex is envisioned as the economic and administrative core of Alatau City, a new center of accelerated growth, and a focal point for unlocking the strategic potential of the emerging business district in the Almaty Region.

The project is based on a distinctive architectural concept, a sustainable and context-sensitive approach to site development, and a transport-oriented transit model that reflects the specific characteristics of the site, integrates multiple modes of transportation, and follows the principles of a modern urban environment.

The concept envisions a multifunctional complex with a total floor area of more than 270,000 square meters and a height of over 50 stories. The development will include a five-star hotel, branded residences, retail areas, residential units, and office spaces, creating a fully integrated urban environment for living, working, business, and leisure.

The project draws on SOM’s global experience in designing landmark high-rise buildings, including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, One World Trade Center in New York, and the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai. These projects have become defining elements of their respective city skylines and showcase advanced architectural, engineering, and sustainability solutions.

The main tower of Alatau Iconic Complex will rise to 272 meters, making it the tallest building in the Almaty Region and one of the tallest buildings in Kazakhstan. The tower will become a new visual landmark for Alatau City and a defining element of the skyline of its emerging business center.

Construction of the complex is being carried out by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), one of the world’s largest construction companies and one of the leading players in China’s construction industry. The company has delivered major infrastructure and construction projects around the world, including high-rise buildings, airports, and urban infrastructure facilities.

Upon completion, Alatau Iconic Complex will become one of the key drivers of Alatau City’s development, giving the new urban district a distinctive identity and creating a modern multifunctional environment for living, working, business, and culture in a 24/7 format.

The complex is designed to become a transit-oriented and culturally vibrant urban center of Alatau, setting a new standard for contemporary urban development in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Cooperation with KIND, a South Korean Quasi-Governmental Corporation

Strategic Partnership with KIND

Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) is a South Korean government-backed corporation established in 2018 to support global public-private partnership projects and the overseas expansion of Korean infrastructure and urban development businesses.

KIND is one of South Korea’s key institutions in the field of international infrastructure and urban development. The corporation is involved in the preparation and implementation of projects across urban and transport infrastructure, energy, logistics, and other strategic sectors.

Cooperation within Alatau City

The development of Alatau City has become one of the promising areas of investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and South Korea. The partnership with KIND is aimed at bringing Korean expertise, technologies, and investment to support the creation of a modern urban and infrastructure environment.

Caspian Group and KIND have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding investment cooperation and developing promising projects in Alatau City.

As part of the cooperation between Alatau City Authority and KIND, an agreement has been signed for the development of the Alatau Smart City Master Plan, providing a framework for joint work on the city’s further development and infrastructure.

Another important element of Kazakhstan–South Korea cooperation is the strategic agreement between Qazaqstan Investment Corporation and KIND to establish a joint Kazakhstan–Korea investment fund. At the initial stage, the fund may reach USD 200 million, with equal participation by both parties and the potential to increase to USD 1 billion.

The fund is expected to finance projects in infrastructure, transport and logistics, energy, urban development, and other strategically important sectors, including prospective projects in Alatau City.

Cooperation with KIND provides a foundation for long-term partnership between Kazakhstan and South Korea in the development of Alatau City, combining investment resources, international expertise, and advanced approaches to urban and infrastructure development.
