Taxis will start flying to Alatau. A new project is planned to be launched at the initiative of the owner of the Bank of Kazakhstan.

An air taxi system is planned to be launched in the new city of Alatau. To this end, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the American company Joby Aero, Inc., Alatau Advance Air Group Ltd. and entrepreneur Vyacheslav Kim have signed a memorandum of cooperation, according to digitalbusines.kz.

According to the document, the purchase of eVTOL electric aircraft worth approximately US$300 million is planned.

What is known about the project

As reported by the Ministry of AI on November 7, 2025, innovative electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft will form the basis of Kazakhstan's first Urban Air Mobility project.

"Kazakhstan is taking a step into the future of innovative transport. The purchase of electric eVTOL aircraft will be an important step in the development of smart cities and the introduction of innovative technologies. This measure will influence the development of Alatau as a unique city with advanced technologies of the future," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiyev.

The American company Joby Aero, Inc. is a global leader in eVTOL aviation and a developer of certified electric air taxis. Its technologies are already being tested in the US and a number of other countries, and will now become part of Kazakhstan's innovative transport system.
