Cities in Kazakhstan may receive special status

The new version of the Constitution proposes introducing an article on the possibility of establishing a special legal regime in the financial sphere in city. This was announced by Bakyt Nurmukhanov, deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan, at the fourth meeting of the Constitutional Commission.

He mentioned Alatau city and Astana financial center as examples. At the same time, according to Nurmukhanov, this provision should not contradict another fundamental amendment to the Constitution—on the unity of the state, the integrity, inviolability, and inalienability of its territory.

“These measures are aimed at ensuring the effective economic development of the republic,” added the deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court.

Earlier, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov noted that the funds received as a result of the tax reform will be directed towards infrastructure development, including in Alatau city.
