A token-based economy could emerge in Alatau

Alatau is one of Kazakhstan’s major projects in recent years. In just over two years, it has been granted special status and designated as a special economic zone, and has attracted major investment projects. Kazinform takes a look at how this future metropolis is developing and what has already been achieved.
According to him, the digital economy is gradually moving beyond the traditional understanding of cryptocurrencies and blockchain and is forming a new model of interaction based on the tokenisation of various types of assets, rights and services.
— Today, we are already living in a token economy. This is not just about cryptocurrencies or blockchain, but about a broader system where capacity, services, access rights and other elements of economic relations are tokenised. The next step is to create a unified token economy space in which social and economic ties will be digitised and integrated,” he noted.
The token economy is an economic model in which the key elements of value, rights and interactions within the system are represented as digital tokens.
Alatau City’s strategy, he said, will be based on the principle of ‘default tokenisation’, whereby various types of assets, services and liabilities can be represented in digital form and integrated into a single ecosystem.
— We view tokenisation as a fundamental principle of how the future economy will function. This will not only simplify access to assets, but also create new models of interaction between market participants and increase the efficiency of economic processes,” he added.
He also noted that the project includes a “single window” mechanism, which will enable the creation of a more flexible regulatory environment and reduce barriers between digital assets and the real economy.
