Alatau City aims to attract a further $4 billion in investment

Which projects have caught investors attention
The portfolio of expected investment in the Alatau City project currently stands at around $4 billion, with investors having already expressed concrete interest in more than 50 projects. Arman Tastanbekov, Deputy Chief Executive Director for Regulatory Policy at the Alatau City Authority, revealed this on the ‘Kazinform’ BIZDIÑ ORTA podcast.
“At present, the portfolio of expected investments – where preliminary negotiations have been held with investors and a fair amount of concrete interest has been expressed, albeit without any legally binding agreements – stands at around $4 billion. We are talking about more than 50 projects,” he said.
Preliminary negotiations on these projects have already taken place with potential investors. Although legally binding agreements have not yet been signed, the parties have already reviewed the operating conditions and the regulatory framework for the projects.
Investors are showing interest in projects in the fields of education, environmentally friendly manufacturing, digital assets and other sectors. International companies such as Mars and PepsiCo are already operating in Alatau City, and there remains interest from European, South Korean and Singaporean investors.
“They have already reviewed our terms and our regulatory framework, which is only just beginning to take shape but is already giving plenty of cause for optimism,” added Tastanbekov.
He noted that some of the projects in the current investment portfolio may move into the implementation phase in the very near future. According to him, negotiations are currently ongoing with a number of foreign companies, alongside preparations for the signing of memoranda of understanding.
According to the authorities, the long-term investment plan for the development of Alatau City is estimated at 10.4 trillion tenge up to 2050, of which 3.1 trillion tenge is planned to be invested by 2030. It was previously reported that, for the immediate future, the city’s investment portfolio had grown from 1.5 trillion to 1.8 trillion tenge, whilst the number of approved projects had increased from 32 to 44.
