Construction of the first skyscraper in Alatau City has officially commenced. The multifunctional Iconic Complex will feature two towers, a hotel, a shopping centre, and office facilities. According to Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, investment in the project will exceed USD 800 million. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2029.
Alatau City is being developed as a national project. The architectural concept of Iconic Complex was presented to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on June 2 during his working visit to the Almaty Region. The project has now entered the construction phase.
Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev attended the groundbreaking ceremony. He emphasised the scale of the development and highlighted the stringent requirements for construction quality, seismic safety, and the building's energy efficiency.
Kanat Bozumbayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
"I believe this building has the potential to become a symbol not only of Alatau City but of Kazakhstan as a whole. We have engaged leading world-class architectural firms in the project. They will oversee construction quality and be held accountable for the final results. If anything goes wrong, they will bear responsibility and face substantial financial penalties. This is standard international practice. We also intend to introduce new requirements, which are expected to be approved within the next couple of months," said Kanat Bozumbayev.
Iconic Complex will form an integral part of the comprehensive development plan for Alatau City.
Currently, the city's investment portfolio comprises 67 projects with a combined value of approximately USD 7 billion. Their implementation is expected to create around 55,000 jobs.
At the same time, the development of the new city requires extensive modernisation of its utility and road infrastructure.
Approximately 30 infrastructure projects are currently underway in Alatau City, covering electricity supply systems, drinking water infrastructure, and road rehabilitation.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, the Government has allocated more than KZT 35 billion for infrastructure modernisation.
