Kazakhstan is seeking to attract advanced German technologies, investment, and industrial expertise to support the development of Alatau City. In Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev held talks with representatives of German federal authorities and executives of major companies.
One of the key events of the Kazakh delegation's visit was a meeting with representatives of German businesses and financial institutions. The Kazakh side presented the investment opportunities offered by Alatau City and the conditions available to potential investors. A special legal regime has been established for foreign companies operating in the future city. Such cooperation is of considerable interest to both Kazakhstan and Germany.
Jens Böhlmann, representative of the Management of the German Eastern Business Association:
– Projects such as Alatau City are of great interest to us because they require expertise in sectors where Germany is particularly strong and holds leading positions globally. When it comes to establishing a medical cluster, we can provide everything needed, from medical equipment and pharmaceuticals to healthcare facilities and related technologies. In terms of infrastructure, we have outstanding companies successfully operating across all areas, from transport infrastructure to essential utility and communication systems."
The discussions also focused on attracting German financing and establishing a joint investment platform. This platform would combine the financial capabilities of German banks with Kazakhstan's government support mechanisms.
In addition, representatives of the business community explored opportunities to establish new manufacturing facilities, develop mechanical engineering, improve water supply systems, construct a medical centre, and expand cooperation in the energy sector. German representatives noted that their country has extensive experience in these areas and can offer advanced technological solutions.
Kristina Haverkamp, managing Director of the German Energy Agency (dena):
– We were particularly interested to hear President Tokayev clearly express his vision of Alatau City as a sustainable and environmentally friendly city. This means that buildings in the city must meet very high energy efficiency standards. Germany is well known for its expertise in this field. German companies can offer advanced solutions to improve building energy efficiency, ranging from building envelopes and thermal insulation to internal engineering systems. I am confident that numerous opportunities for cooperation between Germany and Alatau City will emerge in this area."
The negotiations in Berlin resulted in the signing of 11 agreements with a combined investment potential estimated at USD 325 million.
