Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom are expanding their investment and technological cooperation, 24KZ reports.
In London, a Kazakh delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev held a series of meetings with representatives of the UK Government and international financial institutions.
During discussions with Lord Stewart Wood, the parties addressed issues related to the strategic partnership between the two countries, while talks with the management of Standard Chartered Bank focused on mechanisms for attracting capital. Negotiations with the UK's export credit agency explored opportunities to finance Alatau City's energy, transport, and utility infrastructure projects through export credits and government guarantees.
Kazakhstan proposed identifying priority infrastructure projects that could involve British engineering companies, equipment suppliers, and financial institutions. These include energy facilities, water supply systems, and transport infrastructure.
Kanat Bozumbayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
– We presented, first of all, the proposed development framework and our long-term plan for the city. Our partners, who are assisting in developing the city's long-term master plan, also shared their vision.
Alatau City is also planning to establish branches of leading British educational institutions. Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev and Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek held negotiations with representatives of Brighton College, the University of Exeter, and Magdalen College School in Oxford.
Discussions with representatives of Magdalen College School focused on the possibility of establishing an international-standard school in Alatau City, introducing British educational programmes, and jointly training teachers.
Richard Saldanha, Member of the Governing Council of Magdalen College School, Oxford:
– Alatau City is a highly promising project. I see no reason why we could not establish our school there. I am confident that British education will be in demand among children in Kazakhstan.
