The
project of development of the new Alatau city in Almaty region could add $40-50
billion to Kazakhstan's GDP over 30 years if fully implemented, according to
the Ministry of National Economy.
For
comparison, Kazakhstan's GDP, calculated at the average annual exchange rate of
the National Bank of Kazakhstan, amounted to $291.2 billion in 2024.
"According
to preliminary forecasts, if the project of development of Alatau city is fully
implemented, including all stages, the total contribution to the GDP of the
Republic of Kazakhstan could amount to about $40-50 billion over 30 years,
taking into account direct and indirect effects. This will have a positive
impact on the growth of the national economy and increase the revenue side of
the state budget,“ according to documentation prepared by the Ministry of
National Economy for the draft Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan
”On the Special Status of Alatau city."
At the
same time, the ministry notes that at the initial stage of the project's
implementation, there may be an increase in budget expenditures for
infrastructure development, the creation of management bodies, and the
provision of benefits and preferences. However, upon completion of all phases
of the Alatau city project, these expenses will be offset by an increase in
investment volumes, according to the Ministry of National Economy.
The
development of the Constitutional Law is planned for 2026. Its adoption by
parliament will contribute to the accelerated development of the new city
through investment in promising industries and the introduction of innovations.
At the same time, the development of Alatau will be stimulated by the creation
of a special economic zone and other privileges.
