Commercial air taxi flights are planned to launch in Kazakhstan in 2028. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev at a Government meeting, according to a correspondent for Kazinform.
According to the minister, a pilot project involving the use of autonomous taxis is currently underway in Astana, Almaty and Kosshy. The project is designed to run for three years. A pilot drone delivery service has also been launched in Almaty.
Demonstration flights of air taxis have been conducted in Astana and Alatau. Legislative amendments have been adopted to regulate the operation of these aircraft and support the development of landing infrastructure.
On 19 May, AutoFlight conducted a demonstration flight in Alatau. On 24 July, the AutoFlight Prosperity aircraft completed an uncrewed flight over the Qazanat Hippodrome without passengers on board. The aircraft is designed to carry up to six people.
The EH216-S aircraft also completed a demonstration flight with a passenger on board. It is designed to carry two people, can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h and has a flight range of up to 35 km.
“Commercial air taxi services and the expansion of drone delivery operations are planned for 2027. Commercial air taxi flights are scheduled to begin in 2028,” Madiyev said.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is also developing domestic drone manufacturing capabilities. The minister emphasised that safety and infrastructure readiness remain key priorities at every stage.
It was previously reported that Kazakhstan would introduce separate regulations governing air taxis and unmanned aerial vehicles.
